Hands carving a wooden pet portrait, surrounded by wood shavings

About the studio

Still Creature is an art studio devoted to the quiet presence of living beings within the home. Through woodcut carving and oil painting, I create portraits that preserve not only appearance, but also atmosphere, memory, and companionship.

I first began making pet portraits simply for friends. Along the way, I found myself listening to the small stories behind each animal — stories about routines, habits, nicknames, tiny quirks, and moments that may seem ordinary to others, yet carry immense tenderness to the people who love them.

Again and again, I have been moved by the bond between humans and their companions. It made me realize that these handmade pieces are not simply decorations or portraits, but vessels for emotion, memory, and presence.

Inspired by Eastern ideas of stillness, cycles of time, and harmony within the home, I see animals as gentle beings that quietly shape the energy of the spaces we live in. Their presence softens rooms, witnesses our lives, and becomes woven into our everyday rituals.

In many ways, I feel that I am only a witness. A witness to love taking form through texture, wood grain, paint, and time.
